Soft, Romantic Flowers for an Elegant Garden Wedding

What do real brides have to say about the wedding planning experience? In the weeks leading up to her wedding, guest blogger Linley Taber shared the ins and outs of finding dance floor-friendly bridesmaids dresses, nailing a foodie-approved wedding menu, and more. With the big day behind her, Linley gives us a sneak peak of her gorgeous wedding photos and a few of her favorite details.

My only qualm about wedding flowers is that they don’t last forever. Otherwise, I’m pretty much crazy for them all: big happy mums, vibrant wildflowers, oh-so-chic anemones. Trust me, I could go on. But I was only having one wedding—and, inconveniently, that wedding had a budget. So I was forced to narrow my love for all things floral down to one cohesive vision.

Over the past year or so, I trolled the World Wide Web for inspiration (Pinterest, Tumblr, wedding blogs—you name it), saving any images that caught my eye. When I finally sat down and browsed through them, some flowers (I’m looking at you, hydrangea) felt too preppy and obvious considering the green-and-white striped table linens I’d already set my heart on. Other blooms, like peonies, wouldn’t be in season for my August I do’s. But among the rest, a pretty obvious theme was emerging: nearly half of the arrangements I adored featured big, gorgeous garden roses. Did we have a winner?

Enter the amazing Decorator — and my talented crew, whose love for planning a party (and picking out flowers) rivals my own. Together, the three of us agreed that Juliet roses, a peach English garden rose, would be the star attraction, filling my bouquet, bedecking the arch at the end of the aisle, and serving as a starting point for the table centerpieces. (The only exceptions were the bridesmaids bouquets, for which we chose white garden roses that wouldn’t compete with their vibrant dresses).

I left Felicity with a stack of images and a final request to avoid anything too done, too structured, too fussy. What she delivered truly exceeded my expectations. The centerpieces in particular—heaped with foliage, playful ranunculus, and fabulous dahlias—felt unbelievably lush, romantic, and exactly right for our country wedding. They put everything else I’d considered to shame.
